PROFILE

It is important to plan and implement an effective agronomic program that enhances the quality of the golf course conditions to exceed the level of expectations by the membership. The agronomic practices I incorporate include cultural, pesticide and fertilization, and water management programs coupled with irrigation system upgrades.

PHILOSOPHIES

I do not believe in over fertilization and/or watering. I also do not believe in keeping the turf so lean there is not enough food to provide substantial grow. There must be a balance that meets the desires of the club.

Using cultural practices, soil conditions can be modified overtime. They can also be used to provide great playing conditions. Aerification, verticuting and topdressing are extremely important to maintaining a high-end golf course.

Fertility should be managed based on soil type, amount of sodium and available nutrients. This can be determined by soil testing, tissue testing and sampling of water source. I strongly believe in managing micro environments properly to create consistency. This over time will save money to avoiding unnecessary applications.

One of my key focus points is on increasing microbial activity and creating deep roots. It is important to me to incorporate organic materials in my program. Water should be used in moderation, avoiding excessive wet areas and adjusting for drought conditions. Drainage should be used to help avoid over-saturated situations.

A critical component for long term success is to supplement my knowledge with continuing education and learn from leaders in the industry. How we do thing as superintendents set an example to the club and the community.

It is critical to have the respect of the crew. My example sets the standard for the crew. I would never ask them to do something that I would not do or are uncomfortable with as a member of the crew.
